Setting up an SSTP connection on a windows 7 system is easy for which steps are as given below.
- To begin with the process of setting up an SSTP VPN connection on a windows 7 system, you need to go to the ‘network & sharing center’. Click on the start icon on the taskbar and then on the ‘control panel’ option to open the Control Panel.
- From various options available on the window, click on the ‘network and internet’ option and then click on the ‘network & sharing center’ option to go to the network control center.
- Now select the option for setting up a new connection, which will provide you another window asking you to select from the available options for the connection type. Select ‘connect to workplace’ and then ‘next’ to continue with the process.
- Now, you will be prompted to select the connection mode, where you need to click on the option for a ‘VPN connection’ to proceed to the next step.
- The next window contains two fields named ‘internet address’ and ‘destination name’. You can get the value for ‘internet address’ from the welcome mail that you received from the VPN provider after registering for the service. The ‘destination name’ is the name of the connection, which you must enter according to your convenience, so that you can recognize the connection for later use.
- Click on the ‘next’ button to proceed to the next step, where you will be prompted for the log in credentials of the connection that you are creating. Enter the desired values and then click on the ‘create’ button to create the connection.
- After the creation of the connection, you will be presented with a screen displaying a message that the connection is now ready to be used with an option to connect to it. Click on ‘close’ to move to the configuration part.
- From the ‘network and sharing center’ window, click on the link ‘change adapter settings’ as given on the left side bar of the screen. Locate the connection that you just created and right click on its name to access the properties of the connection.
- In the properties window, move to the ‘security’ tab to modify settings according to the need of the connection.
- Change the value of the option ‘type of VPN’ to the ‘SSTP’ and then click on ‘OK’ button to save the modification.
- In this step the connection is now created and configured successfully and can be used to access the VPN services.
Connect/Disconnect
To connect to the service, you can either double click on the connection name from the ‘network connections’ window or you can access the available network connections from the network pane window. To access the network pane window, click on the connection icon (monitor type) in the notification area of the taskbar. Click on the name of the connection to get the button for establishing the connection and click on it.
To disconnect from the service, go the network pane window and click on the connection that you are connected to. This will provide you an option to disconnect from the service, which you need to click on to terminate the connection.
