IPVanish Immune to Heartbleed

IPVanish has checked their systems and they were found to be free of the Heartbleed threat. This top VPN provider does not use the Heartbeat extension that carries the bug. IPVanish wants to reassure all their users so they are inviting any questions about the vulnerability.

IPVanish not Affected by Heartbleed

IPVanish does not use TLS extension 15, called Heartbeat. It is this extension that was causing the Heartbleed threat. This means that the SSL implementation of IPVanish was never at risk. They only use OpenSSL versions 0.9.8, 1.0.0e and 1.0.0j. Users who still have concerns about Heartbleed can contact the company. They are also invited to use the tools that have been made publicly available to check for the Heartbleed vulnerability.

The IPVanish website used SSL V2, and this has been disabled as a safety measure. There are no reports about these older versions of SSL, but IPVanish believes that it is better to be safe than sorry. They are also applying the latest updates of the patch for OpenVPN to be on the safe side. IPVanish has not been compromised by Heartbleed, but changing your password is still a good idea. This is especially true if you have used your IPVanish password for other online services.
