Instructions to Setup and Configure the SSTP VPN Connection on your Windows 8 Based System

The creation and configuration of SSTP VPN connection on windows 8 based system is easy. With a stepwise guide for setting up the connection, you will be able to easily create a connection and connect to it for using your VPN services.

  • To begin the process of creating a connection, start by pressing the ‘Window’ key from the keyboard and then type ‘Virtual Private Network’ in the search column. Click on the ‘Settings’ category from the list and select the option named ‘Setup a VPN connection’.
  • You will be prompted to enter the IP address of your VPN provider, which you can get from your VPN provider. Enter the IP address that you might have received in the welcome email, which can be a domain name or a numerical IP. In the ‘destination’ field, enter the name for the connection to make it easy for you to recognize it later on. After entering the details, click on the create button to get done with the creation of the connection.
  • Now you need to configure the connection for use with your VPN service. You will see a monitor type icon on the taskbar of your system at its bottom right corner. Click on the icon to see the available connections, out of which you need to find out the one that you just created.
  • Right click on the name of the connection and select the ‘Properties’ option from the menu displayed.
  • In the security window, move to the security tab to modify the configuration settings of the connection. You will see an option for the ‘Type of VPN’, the value of which should be changed to SSTP. Check the button for ‘Allow these protocols’ to enable different protocols, under which you should check the options ‘CHAP’and ‘MS-CHAP v2’ to proceed with the settings. Click on the OK button to confirm the changes made in the security settings of the connection.
  • With this, the creation and the configuration of the VPN connection is complete.

Connect to the Network

To connect to the network, click on the monitor icon on the taskbar and then click on the name of the connection that you wish to connect to. You will be prompted for the username and password for the connection. Enter the credentials and click on OK to establish a connection. You will see ‘connected’ written on the front of the VPN name in the list, after the connection has been established. After connecting to the server, you can verify the IP address of your system displayed on the network.

To disconnect from the connection, go to the monitor icon again and click on it. Now, click on the connection name to get the ‘disconnect’ option. Click on ‘disconnect’ option to disconnect from the network.

Remove the Network

To remove the connection that you created, type ‘View network connections’ on the search bar accessed by pressing ‘window‘ key and select the ‘settings’ option and the ‘View network connections’. Look for the connection that you want to remove, right click on its name, click on the delete option to remove it.

So, now you are ready to configure the SSTP connection on your windows 8 based system.
