VPN and other encryption tools have been hot items on the Internet market since June this year. AES-128 allows faster encryption on the average computer for user convenience. The encryption is also optional, so that encryption can be done separately from hiding IP addresses through the VPN server. This adds to the speeds.

VPNs have used hashing technologies for data integrity and authentication. SHA1 (160-bit) is faster, and SHA-256 is more secure. Key sizes have increased to RSA-2048 since RSA-1024 was cracked. But the new VPNs will offer RSA-3072 and RSA-4096 as well for tighter security.

Elliptic Curve Cryptography options will also be added, similar to those used by online payment services like BitCoin. Amid rumors that RSA may have been broken by the NSA, ECC-256K1, ECC-256R1 and ECC-521 will become available to VPN users.

Control of these settings will give users better security because they will be able to change the settings anytime. This constant adjustment of encryption and authentication will confuse attackers.
