Guide to Assist you Setup a PPTP VPN Connection on Your Blackberry Device

Blackberry devices were initially launched for the business people only, but the advent of other Smart devices in the market compelled them to be launched for common consumers also. However, there are a few VPN providers that offer service for these devices as well, but all are not accompanied by dedicated clients for these devices. So, a step by step guide for the users of Blackberry devices to assist them in setting up a manual PPTP VPN connection on their device is provided below.

  • To start the process of setting up a PPTP connection on a device running on the Blackberry operating system, start by opening the settings of the device. For this, either tap on the ‘settings’ icon on the top bar, or access the icon from the menu of the device.
  • On the ‘settings’ page, look for the ‘network connections’ option and tap on it to get access to menu options related to network settings.
  • In the ‘network connections’ options, select the ‘VPN’ option and tap on it to open the VPN related settings.
  • After clicking on the ‘VPN’ option, you will see a list of VPN connections available for your device (the list might be empty, if you haven’t created any VPN connection earlier). Here, you will see another option named ‘Add VPN profile’, which you should tap on to start the creation of a new VPN connection.
  • In the next step, you will see a detailed form displaying a list of fields to be filled for your desired VPN service. In the first field, you need to input the VPN name, which you must add according to your convenience, so that you can recognize the connection later on.
  • The second field prompts you to enter the server address of your VPN connection, where you need to fill in the host name that you will get from your VPN provider.
  • In the ‘Gateway Type’ field, select the ‘Microsoft IKEv2 VPN Server’ option. The ‘Authentication type’ must be set to ‘EAP-MSCHAPv2’. You should leave the next field labeled ‘Authentication ID Type’ blank as this will not be used in the connection process.
  • In the ‘Authentication ID’ field, you need to input the ‘username’ of the VPN service that you are creating a connection for. In the next field, ‘MSCHAPv2 Password’, you must enter the VPN password for the VPN service that you have subscribed to. You will get these settings in the welcome mail from your VPN provider.
  • After entering all the desired values in the fields provided, tap on the ‘save’ option to save the settings for the connection.
  • With this step, you are now done with the creation and configuration of the PPTP VPN connection on your Blackberry device. Now tap on the name of the connection that you just created to initiate the process of establishing a connection with the server.
